With just a few materials and a touch of creativity, you’ll turn a basic pot into a stylish, one-of-a-kind piece and give your space a fresh Dutch design twist.It’s the perfect weekend DIY or a thoughtful handmade gift for someone who loves plants and design.
What Are We Making?
We’re giving an ordinary planter a serious style upgrade using handcrafted tiles. This is the kind of project that’s as fun to make as it is rewarding to look at. Whether you’re into bold patterns, soft tones, or something in between, The Dutch Tile Project has a design for every taste.

🛠 What you'll need
- 4 of your favourite Dutch Tiles
- A plant pot — For example, the Kolibri Home Mosa pot, or any pot you already have (we used an 11x11cm pot for 11x11cm tiles).
- High tack adhesive — To stick the tiles firmly in place.
- White silicone sealant — For sealing the joints between the tiles.
- Caulking gun
- Dish soap + water — For smoothing out the sealant.
- A plastic card or scraper — To clean up the seams.
- A cute plant — Of course.
Let's get started
1. Prep Your Pot
Clean your pot thoroughly to make sure it’s free of dust and grease — this helps the adhesive stick better.
2. Attach the Tiles
Apply high tack adhesive to the back of a tile using the caulking gun. Press the tile firmly onto the pot. Repeat until the entire surface is covered. Let the glue dry according to the instructions.
3. Seal the Joints
Mix a bit of dish soap with water. Use the white silicone sealant to fill in the gaps between the tiles, and smooth the seams with a damp finger or a plastic card for a clean finish.
4. Let It Cure
Let everything dry completely. Once set, your tiled planter is ready to take the spotlight.
Make it your own
Feel free to get creative — switch up the pot size, try a mosaic look, or mix and match tile styles. The Dutch Tile Project has tons of designs to choose from, so the possibilities are endless. For this version, we went with a classic Dutch vibe, but you can totally make it your own. Create a coffee-themed planter with tiles like the Espresso Machine, Latte, Espresso and Croissant. Or design a nature-themed plant pot with a bee, tulip, butterfly and barn swallow.
