About the Artists
Saša Ostoja (left) is an artist and illustrator who works on murals, editorials, and clothing collections. Jan Jesse Bakker (right) is a graphic and motion designer who runs his own design studio, Monostatic.
The two friends first met in Amsterdam through mutual friends when they were in their mid-twenties. Their shared fascination with playful, character-driven design sparked a creative friendship, and soon the first sketches of animal-like letters appeared on the studio floor. These early ideas grew into Botanico Island, a whimsical universe filled with fantastical creatures and endless creative possibilities.
By night, Saša and Jan Jesse collaborate from Saša’s studio, where they sketch, animate, and bring new species to life. Their working process is rooted in friendship. Every Monday evening is a mix of drawing, talking, and building on each other’s ideas. Together, they aim to create something for all ages, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes humorous, always imaginative.
About the Collection
Gesnavelde Getallen (Beaked Numbers) is a special tile collection created by Saša and Jan Jesse as an extension of Botanico Island. Originally, the world of Botanico began with letters shaped like animals (see image). Over time, the duo developed a system in which each character could evolve into different species, creating an ever-expanding alphabet.
When The Dutch Tile Project invited Saša to create a collection, it felt only natural to bring the world of Botanico along. This time, they focused on numbers, transforming them into quirky, bird-like figures, each with its own personality and symbolic meaning. The result is a set of ten Delft Blue tiles, poetic, playful, and perfect as a meaningful gift for birthdays or other special occasions.

The Artist Collection is an exclusive line of Delft Blue tiles crafted in collaboration with talented artists. Each 15x15 cm tile features exclusive, contemporary designs, elevating traditional Delftware to a new level. Limited to only 50 tiles per design.
We like to keep things special. By offering limited editions, we add a sense of exclusivity and make each collection feel truly unique.
Unfortunately not. Each design is strictly limited to 50 pieces, and once they sell out, they will not be reproduced. So if you fall in love with a design, don’t wait too long!
Our artist collection tiles are priced a bit higher because we believe in supporting the talented creatives behind the designs. Each tile in this collection includes a fair commission for the artist, so with every purchase, you're directly supporting independent art and craftsmanship as well as the artist themselves.
